Thorsten Dame studied architecture and building conservation and has been the managing director of the Berlin-based agency, Laufwerk B – Architektur und Kommunikation, since 2002.
The following year, he began giving classes at the Berlin University of the Arts (UdK) and the Technische Universität Berlin, where he lectures on the conservation of industrial buildings and conservation in urban planning.
His academic credentials since 2005 include his membership of the Center for Metropolitan Studies at the Technische Universität Berlin and scholarships from Columbia University and the German Research Foundation (DFG). Thorsten Dame wrote his PhD dissertation at the Transatlantic Graduate Research Program Berlin – New York on the negotiation processes between cities and companies, using the construction programme of the public electricity supply company as a case study
