Dirk Schubert is professor in Urban Planning, Comparative Planning History, Housing and Urban Renewal at the HafenCity University Hamburg and Dean of the Master programme Urban Planning. His research focuses on Urban History, Planning History, History of Housing and Urban Renewal, especially on transformation of harbour and waterfront areas in seaport regions, city/port interface areas. His latest books are: Changes in Port and Waterfront Areas World wide (3nd ed. 2008), Growing Cities (with Uwe Altrock, 2004) and Residential Areas in Hamburg (2005). He has published many articles in German, English, Spanish, Turkish and Chinese Periodicals and Journals on Housing, Urban Renewal, Planning History and especially on Waterfront Revitalisation. He is co-editor of the Journals Planning Perspectives and Portus and a founding member of the International Urban Waterfront Research Network. He organized in conference in Hamburg 2008 “The Fixity and Flow of Urban Waterfronts” and the findings will be published 2010 in a book by publisher Routledge.
