Giulia Burresi Giacomich
Giulia Burresi Giacomich, degree in Modern Literature and professor of humanities in various local institutes until 1994, has been involved in projects devoted to the preservation of the local historic heritage and since 1993 and she has been an active member of Italia Nostra.Over the past years, she organized courses in cultural diffusion and updating for teachers, presenting topics related to the history, architecture and natural environment of Trieste and province, as well as deal with the protection of historical and environmental heritage.
Vice President for several years, since 2004 is President of the local team of Italia Nostra. Priorities to which she fully devoted herself in the preservation of the historic, artistic and archaeological area of Cittavecchia, Trieste (archaeology emergency actions for the Roman city and witness of the medieval city), of historical and archaeological areas in the city and province, of the “castellieri” (ruined ancient hill forts), medieval castles, of the Old Port, villas, parks, palaces and old houses at risk, the streets and historical squares, the monastery of Saint Cyprian, the Ponterosso channel, the Theresian Capofonte, the Trieste embankments with historic warehouses. She organized the restoration of an ancient Roman tower.
She also devoted much effort to protect the natural environment and landscape, even with the instruments of urban and regional planning that can somehow overturn the historical and environmental identity of land and coastal zones, including the defense of the Sistiana bay and initiatives against the TAV and the Trieste Liquid Natural Gas terminals in active collaboration with WWF.
Together with Antonella Caroli she treated Italia Nostra’s publications and promoted events for the protection of cultural heritage.
